Laurie Mendenhall Art: July 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the July Newsletter!

WOW! June was so busy! So sorry if you missed all the fun, but we are heating up around here and things are moving and shaking.

June was full of art and fun with my show at Studio 136 Gallery in High Point, NC. What a wonderful turnout we had for my artist reception. Thank you to each and every one of you who came out, shared a laugh, enjoyed some art, and maybe even took home a piece or two. It was an evening memory I won't soon forget!

I also had a GREAT time with Dana and friends at the Cohab Print Making workshop! First time dabbling in this medium and boy was it fun AND messy!!

What's happening in July

Monday night's at Connie's

If you're looking for me on a Monday night, I'm at Connie Logan's Studio painting! Connie is an amazing Monet influenced oil painter and you can find her large works at several galleries, but locally at the Grandover gallery (or by appointment). She's been helping me hone my skills and find my style in Oils. And while I still have a love for architecture, I also love painting the coast in an impressionist style full of sun rise and sunset yellows, blues, greens and oranges.

A Month of Rest?

My intention is to spend July resting and painting. Which I am off to a pretty good start. I can't help but want to learn and practice. Yet...as I write, I realize how BUSY I am. At least I'm doing what I love!

Needless to say, I’ll be spending a lot of time in the home studio (and at Connie's) over the next few months preparing for my first show in June. My work will be on display for the entire month, with the reception date still to be announced.

Where to find my art and upcoming shows:

  • July 2026 -
    • I'm the Artist of the month at Studio 136 Gallery for June, but my Work is up until July 15th. If you haven't been by, now's your chance!
  • August 2026 - I'll be the Featured Artist at the Library!
    • High Point Public Library featured Artist of the Month. Art will be installed on August 3rd and ready for viewing on August 4th
    • Meet the Artist at the High Point Public Library, Saturday, August 29th, 9:30 am - 11 am in the lobby. Come by and say Hello!!
  • August 2027 -
    • Nomad Wine Works Solo Show

ACEOs - Art for Everyone!

ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals. These are highly collectible, pocket-sized pieces of art that must measure exactly 2.5 by 3.5 inches (64 by 89 mm)—the exact size of a standard trading or baseball card.

This form of art is fun to create and the price tag on them means they are accessible by just about anyone. My first set was created as watercolors of the Home Jerseys of the Round of 32 teams of the FIFA World Cup. They sold as a set before I could even put them on eBay for auction. Next, I did a Pulisic jersey for the USMNT and it sold in under 24 hours. So, now you can find a Vonizha jersey (Cabo Verde keeper) HERE and a World Cup Ball HERE on eBay.

Happy Birthday, High Point Public Library

Our library is turning 100 this year and to celebrate, the library is hosting a Community Art Project called Find Your Joy in the Library. Signing up was easy, coming up with a subject, too. I mean, what better to create than the some of the very books I first learned to read? Getting it all on a 10" x 10" canvas was the real fun part! My memories and love of the library go back to when it was on South Main, next to the YMCA (yes, they BOTH were downtown back in the 1970s. I loved reading. I loved looking at all the books. The smell of books. The cold AC on a hot summer day. My own library card. AND...the summer reading club and a sticker for every book you read. Come out and join us on July 18th for a meet the artist event in tandem with the High Point Arts Council. I won't be there (I already signed up for an art class at Cohab), but you will get a sneak peak at the art and meet many of the creatives in High Point.

Publish Your Coloring Book

I'm tossing around the idea of teaching a class on how to create, layout, and publish your own coloring book all while I am working on my next one about my hometown of High Point. Sign up here if you're interested in learning more (when I have more to share): SIGN UP.

You can also purchase my Coastal Carolina Coloring books with a set of Crayolas at Studio136 Gallery. Stop by and grab yours! Out of town? Search my name on Amazon and you'll find my coloring books and journals.

Commissions

Commissions are OPEN! Summertime is the perfect time to start planning for the holidays! Home, Pet, and University watercolors may be purchased on my Etsy site HERE.

Home and Pet Portraits as well as University Illustration commissions are open now. I'm also taking other commission requests in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Reach out to discuss sizes and pricing.

If you saw something you liked at my show, but someone else purchased it? Commission a personalized version just for you.

I'm also taking holiday card commissions. Be bold and stand out this year with a one of kind card designed and printed just for you.

A Gentle Reminder

It's hot out there. Drink your water. Rest when you need it. Create as often as possible! Enjoy your summer

Well, well, well....it's a newsletter from me!

Welcome to the August Newsletter! Did July fly by or was that just me? All of the sudden it's time to get ready to go back to school, the mornings seem oddly cooler, and it's August! I'm not ready for summer to be over!! July was full of more coastal art, jewelry making, plenty of family time, and also a full blown re-brand! Just as the last hours of July were upon us, the last edits were being made to the website and branding kit. It may seem counter-intuitive, but moving away from a...
