NEW ART and a BIG Announcement - Laurie Mendenhall Art Sept 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the September Newsletter!

I can’t believe it’s September. Summer slipped away while I wasn’t looking. It feels like we just didn’t have quite enough summer, but I could do without the 100 degree days. It’s okay though, it was a busy and fun summer and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Honestly, I’m kind of ready for sweaters and and jeans. So, with that, Happy Labor Day and the end of Summer!

What's happening in September

Not much. And that is exactly how I planned it. We are finally taking a much needed vacation. Naren and I haven't traveled together in over a year. Yes, that means we haven't been to Disney in 15 months...but who's counting? We took a year off and it did wonders for us and our bank account but we are ready to return to our favorite place for a nice week of togetherness and to see our Chef son.

Monday Night's at Connie's

Join me (and some other fun people) Monday nights in Greensboro in Connie Logan's Studio. We're learning and practicing our skills oil painting! Bring your own oil paints and canvas (or buy one from her) and learn painting oils. I was once intimidated by oils. I never thought I'd fall in love with them. And the funniest part to me is that almost ALL of my oil paintings are painted on Monday nights.

Connie is an amazing Monet-influenced oil painter. You can find her large works at several galleries, but locally at the Grandover gallery or by appointment in her studio.

I started oils last fall and I haven't looked back. My summer series was my best work yet with prints coming soon! Be on the lookout for a pre-order form in the next week. I’m currently working on some smaller pieces of local institutions to show at Studio 136. They will all be available for sale. I love painting local favorites and can't wait to decided what to paint next.

My latest work in progress: Kepley’s BBQ

What's new in the Etsy Shop

Old prints are coming down this week and being retired for good. All new watercolors are hitting the shop now, as well as some of my favorite watercolors not available there before. This is what happens when you start re-organizing a studio that's gotten out of control. You find things. More of my acrylic pop art will hit the shop this week, too. Like the "I'm Lovin' It" series where I pay homage to my childhood favorite, McDonald's. These were so much fun to paint and look great as stand alone pieces or as a group. If you love color and a taste of childhood, these are perfect for you!

Hot Pocket ACEO Club

Last week, I had this crazy idea to change up the Print Club and turn it into an ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) Club and….I have decided to go for it. For at least as long as I can create them monthly. This will entirely depend on how many sign up for the club. I separate email will be going out this week to sign up for the first set. That email will have all the information about it.

What are ACEOs? - Art for Everyone!

ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals. These are highly collectible, pocket-sized pieces of art that must measure exactly 2.5 by 3.5 inches (64 by 89 mm)—the exact size of a standard trading or baseball card. My jerseys were a huge hit, I'm working on a few new designs I will have on hand for sale ($5 each) at the Library Meet and Greet on August 29th.

Hot Pocket Print Club

I haven't completely tossed the print club idea. I love mail, especially fun mail. I've done subscription boxes before and I've always looked forward to the monthly arrival of my subscription. I'm mulling this over and have lots of ideas around it that's not solely collecting art, but maybe something more! Let's do one thing at a time and get the ACEOs off the ground. If you have suggestions, let me know. I love hearing from you.

Pre-Order Print Shop

Old prints are coming down this week. All New Prints and Note Cards will be available for PRE-ORDER this month. A Google order form will be available this week sometime on my website under AVAILABLE PRINTS. You'll be able to send in your order and then be sent an invoice via PayPal. Be on the lookout for it! Life gets crazy around here, so I can't tell you when....but it will be there! I'll put it out on the socials once it's up.

Events

After a busy August, I’m looking forward to a slow September. I’ve got a few plans to support friends Art Shows and events and, taking a nice vacation with my husband. What I really want to do is create a body of work and start looking at more art show opportunities.

Have you ever been double booked? I accidentally booked myself in the show at Connie’s and booked the start of my vacation on the same day. So, Connie will be showing some of my pieces at Art in the Yard at Connie’s. Showing off my work that I have created in her studio on Monday nights is so much fun. I have several follow-the-leader pieces where I was learning techniques and copying one of her paintings. All pieces showing will be available for sale. Follow me on social media for details on the event.

  • September 27th - Art in the Yard at Connie Logan Originals
    • I'll have a few pieces to show, but as mentioned, I will be on vacation. Connie can assist with any sales and bank those funds toward my Monday night fees.
  • August 2027 - Next Summer!!
    • Nomad Wine Works Solo Show
    • Theme to be determined, but I'm hoping to go big (or go home) for at least some of the pieces.
    • My brain and the creativity that pours out is giving a zillion ideas, but I keep finding myself coming back to....what do you love?

Commissions Closing Soon for the Holidays!!!

Home and Pet Portraits as well as University Illustration commissions for the holidays are closing soon! Very limited space is available for commissions for the holidays! I usually shut it off on September 30th. I don't want to spend my holidays working either, but if you're in a pinch, let me know. You can order any of these through my ETSY SHOP.

A Gentle Reminder

September carries a quiet shift. We ease back into routines, school days, and steadier rhythms. The sun feels different, the shadows stretch, and the days shorten. We miss summer’s warmth, yet there’s comfort in settling in, taking stock, and preparing for what’s ahead.

Let this month guide you back to yourself with intention and ease.

Well, well, well....it's a newsletter from me!

Welcome to the August Newsletter! Did July fly by or was that just me? All of the sudden it's time to get ready to go back to school, the mornings seem oddly cooler, and it's August! I'm not ready for summer to be over!! July was full of more coastal art, jewelry making, plenty of family time, and also a full blown re-brand! Just as the last hours of July were upon us, the last edits were being made to the website and branding kit. It may seem counter-intuitive, but moving away from a...

Welcome to the July Newsletter! WOW! June was so busy! So sorry if you missed all the fun, but we are heating up around here and things are moving and shaking. June was full of art and fun with my show at Studio 136 Gallery in High Point, NC. What a wonderful turnout we had for my artist reception. Thank you to each and every one of you who came out, shared a laugh, enjoyed some art, and maybe even took home a piece or two. It was an evening memory I won't soon forget! I also had a GREAT time...

Welcome May! Welcome! It's been a busy spring so far around here. I'm currently preparing for my artist showcase at Studio 136 in High Point. Last year, I had a very casual artist meet and greet at the new gallery in High Point, NC, It was a tremendous success. Next month, I'm showcasing some of the work that I've been doing for the last year. What Happened in April? Everything! We had a great event at Studio 136 called Snack N Paint--for the kids! A free art event for the kids. We had music,...
